Finding the hidden gems

One of the real treats of moving to a new place is how often you discover little gems in everyday life. This morning Scotland and I walked up and over the hill by our house to the playground. We enjoyed running around on the outdoor basketball courts, climbing through the “spider web” and imagining up scenes of rescue on the fire truck. As we were leaving I suggested we walk down the dead end road that runs alongside the playground. There was a house there I’d seen from behind that I wanted to see from the front. We walked down halfway, when suddenly we saw this beautiful trail heading into a forested glen. “Let’s see where this leads, Scotter!” We spent the next fifteen minutes or so exploring the small but beautiful North City Park. I had seen the said park noted on google maps but always assumed it referred to the soccer field and playground that we often visited. No, instead it’s a quaint and beautiful little park with lovely trails right next to it.

North City Park- our latest discovery.

I wish I would have snapped a few more pictures, because the place was very picturesque, alas- next time. With it being only around the corner from us, I’m sure we’ll visit this place often.  I love that the first portion of the park features beautiful paved trails, with mossy rocks to climb on, and lush vegetation to enjoy, while the back end is more thinned out forest with dirt trails- a little boy’s heaven! I’m already picturing myself coming here with my new baby, sitting quietly with him as Scotland explores to his heart’s content!
I’m falling in love with my neighborhood more and more each week!
