Happy 6th Anniversary

At one of the highest lakes in the world!
Last Saturday was Tom and I’s 6th Anniversary. By total luck/fortune, Tom got the day off work (actually the entire weekend off work!) We spent the morning at Pike’s Place Market enjoying a potato and cheddar Piroshky from that famed Piroshky Piroshky Bakery, fresh mini donuts from Daily Dozen (That reminded me of Anne Evans’) , and other random samples. Tom gifted me with some Chukar Cherries (especially endearing since his endearment for me is “Cherry.”) And I gifted him with some Barrel-aged Basalmic Vinegar. (Two items we had previously salivated over, but felt were too expensive to purchase. Our anniversary proved the perfect opportunity to splurge.

Eating the best selling Potato and Cheddar Piroshky

Mini donuts- we bought a half dozen, but the guy threw a few extras in there- “Because it’s such a nice day!”

The Ferris Wheel is right on the water, which gave us lots of opportunities to see HUGE jelly fish, a seal, as well as the boats, ferries, freeway and Seattle Skyline.

We try to do something every anniversary that will set it apart from any other. Two years ago we went to the Red Butte Gardens, last year we went jet skiing. This year we rode Seattle’s Great Wheel. It was Scotland’s first time on a ferris wheel, and Tom and I’s first time on one together. It proved memorable!

We love family time! Tom’s new work schedule has made it all the more precious.

We stopped for lunch at this little Greek restaurant called Zaina. We enjoyed our lamb shawarma plate outside just down from a band playing live music on the street. The location and vibe was very “Seattle.” Live music, people watching, good food, mmmm!

After a fun filled morning at Pike’s we took the bus back home for nap time and duplo time, and then headed out again for authentic Napolitano Pizza at Tutta Bella. (Okay, maybe we are foodies!) Tom had heard from an Italian guy he met here that this was the most authentic napolitano pizzerias in Seattle. We had to admit that it competed with the Torre del Grecco pizza we ate just out of Napoli some eight years ago. (Mary, when you come we should go so you can judge for yourself!)  Caprese Antipasto and Insalate Mista were equally delicious, and of course we welcomed the free chocolate pana cotta (“Because it’s your first time here, we’d like to give you a free desert!” Seattle people are SO nice!) It was a tremendous meal, and we left wishing we had the funds to frequent this place often. On our way out Tom over heard a family speaking Italian, because he can’t resist the opportunity to refresh his Italian he stopped and asked for further restaurant recommendations. They all laughed and chatted in Italian, I even jumped in with some Italian, and was relieved that I could still follow most of the conversation. Tom left beaming, wishing he could move back to Italy. We ended the night with a long walk down to the water. Why not- it was the easiest way to keep Scotter content and get a chance to talk.

I marveled that despite our nine years together (six married) I love Tom more now than I did when we married, and that’s saying a lot. My admiration for him has only grown. I’ve been overwhelemed by what an involved and adoring father he is. He will play duplos with Scotland for hours, and patiently plays play partner- jumping, running, and falling down- even in public. He is what I’d call an “Angel Husband.” If you listen to many General Conferences you’ll catch the reference. It’s a term usually endeared to wives, but he’s certainly the one who qualifies in our marriage. His selfless service to me is humbling. He is always thinking of ways to make my life easier and more pleasant. He’s supportive and encouraging, while also accepting and patient. I can’t express enough gratitude for all that he does and is to me.
