Friday: Family Fun

We like to say Friday is Family Fun and Saturday is Date night, typically that means Friday evening we focus on doing fun things with Scotland, but last Friday Tom took the whole day off and we headed out for a staycation. We spend the morning in Tremont a west-side suburb of Cleveland, visiting some historic churches:

Eating at Lucky’s (which claims to have the best brunch in Cleveland- and after eating their vanilla bean waffles with strawberry rhubarb compote, whipped cream and caramel sauce I wouldn’t deny it!) They strive for the freshest of ingredients, making everything they can from scratch, growing some of their ingredients in their raised beds, and buy the rest from local farmers markets. I was so excited by the rhubarb that I asked where they’d bought it. The chef came out to tell me and we chatted about the delicacy that is spring rhubarb and asparagus. As we were preparing to leave he brought out a take out container, with a complimentary bunch of asparagus! What a thoughtful guy!

And walking around the bohemian little town. We hit up Sweet Lorain a vintage resale store that was a serious flash from the past. The 60s and 70s were wild! It was fun to realize that some of the recent trends are repeats from that era, for example the recent owl craze.

We also stopped by Sweet Moses a west-side soda shop. We had our first phosphate and a dynamite root beer float with homemade rootbeer. Because really what is a vacation but lots of good food.

We had planned on ending the outing at Edgewater park with our kite, but Scotter had yet to fall asleep and was starting to fall apart so we headed home, and all enjoyed a nice afternoon nap- what a luxury. It was a lovely day. We’re living the dream.
