Tom is away for the week at a conference in San Diego. He’s learning the programming language Neuron. Anyway, that leaves me home alone with only my projects to accompany me. Thursday I spent about 10 hours working on the yard. I dug up three stumps, transplanted two huge spirea, and pretty much pulled everything out of my front beds and then put it all back in with a bunch of new plants I bought.
I haven’t added many new plants to this bed, and the ones I have added aren’t blooming yet, so it doesn’t look like much yet, but I just wanted to point out the two spirea that I moved to the corners. They were previously on each side of the front walk. I decided to transplant a few rose of sharon that had been in the corner to the center, I’m not sure they’ll stay, but I figured, I might as well put them somewhere since they were free!
Here’s one half of the other larger front bed. You an see my new Caramel Corabell, meadow sage, campanula, guara, I can’t remember the name of the pink one on the far right.
Here’s the middle part. Notice the featured crocasmia in the middle. The Jacob’s ladder in front of that, and the tickseed and molten lava in front.
Here’s the otherside which is just symetrical of the first. I got gutsy and even moved my allium they are now in the back by the burning bush, and I also moved a bunch of my tulips so they were in bunches rather than a straight line. I can’t wait until things fill out and start blooming!
When I went out to take these pictures, this little fellow darted through the bed and than sat there looking at me. I wish I had had my longer lense!
Today, I spent the entire day painting trim. It’s a monotonous task, but it was made better by my listening to “Jane Eyre.” I think I listend to eleven hours of Jane Eyre today! I’m almost done, which is good timing since our book club on the book is this Thursday. I should only have a couple hours left. I adore that book. I read it many years ago and loved it then and reading (or listening) to it again has only renewed my affection for the book. Anyway, I painted all the trim and doors in the stairwell area as well as the vestibule. I painted the trim and door to the bathroom, but wasn’t able to paint the baseboards in there yet because I had to fill the nail holes first.
My friend Kellie recently bought a house very similar to ours and her and her husband have been fixing it up. I was checking her blog the other day and was amazed at how much they had already done. It got me motivated to just finish up some of these lingering projects. So today was the day. I also primed the desk in the guest room and the top part of my music cabinet.
I am sufficently worn out! Thank goodness tomorrow is a day of rest.
