Last weekend, I had an adjudication in Oxford, Oh. Tom, being the thoughtful husband he is, decided to make the trek with me. He’s always good for making things more enjoyable. We slept at Cassie and Doug’s on the way there and the way back. (Thank you sooo much!) Allowing us to play a couple great games of “Puerto Rico.” We saw some beautiful country side. (I couldn’t believe the number of red buds growing wild on the side of the interstate!) I sang. And we visited the National Airforce Museum in Dayton. We only had an hour, but it was well worth the visit.
Seeing all these instruments of war, made me grateful that I have been free from the fears of war. I have never had to fear planes flying over head. I’ve never been afraid to walk across a field in case there were bombs. I am grateful to those who have and do fight to keep my security a reality.
This stealth bomber was my favorite. Doesn’t it look like a UFO!
I thought this drone looked like a whale.
I thought a lot about my grandfather who fought with the air force in WWII. We saw the sort of planes he would have flown in. It made me wonder what he must have thought flying over those German villages. It made me think of all those young men who were called in to serve their country during that horrific world war. I made me wonder if such a universal travesty will occur again. For now, I am grateful for the minds that create such masterpieces of engineering and physics, for the courageous men who are willing to operate them, and to the leaders that prevent them from being used.

I love that picture of Grandpa Pete. So distinguished. Tom Brokaw was right: The Greatest Generation.
That stealth bomber looks awesome!
Yes we are so blessed to live in this country at this time.
