As I have grown, Easter has taken on a new meaning for me. Gone are the days of eggs and candy, and come is an increased awareness of the importance and significance of this time of year. In college my Institute teacher embedded within me a deep respect and love for the Jewish traditions that were the forerunners of Christianity. We spoke often of Passover and Yom Kippur. They are rich beautiful celebrations established by the Lord. Understanding them has made me all the more grateful for the Sacrament that the Lord implemented at the Last Supper. Last year, Tom and I had our first passover meal with our seminary students. I was so touched in preparing for the meal and then experiencing it, that I decided I want to continue the tradition in some way every year. In pondering how I could incorporate the passover tradition into this year’s Easter celebration, I found this article. I think it beautiful describes the transition from Passover to Sacrament. It brought a beautiful spirit to my heart.
As buds rise out of branches, and blooms rise out of bulbs I’m grateful for the reminder of One other who rose, and freed all of us from death and sin.
