They tore down the house across the street from ours this week. After a fire two years ago, a makeshift repair job, and then two Cleveland winters over a tarpped roof, it was irreparable and after a year looking dilapidated, the city posted its signage warning the owner (probably some investor from Texas) and then tore it down. While it was fun to watch the house come down (in about 30 minutes!), it’s removal is both happy and sad.
I loved that little house. It had such charm. It reminded me of a gingerbread house and I enjoyed looking at it through my window. However since the repair job went ary it has been nothing but an ugly scar on our neighborhood and in that way I were happy to have it removed. Perhaps they will use the space for a community garden, or if not at least they will plant grass and we can have a place to play soccer with Bryce and Dallin when they visit. Maybe we’ll use it for block picnics. It’s absence offers us a bit more privacy, and means that we have a new neighbor to get to know, one that somehow we have yet to meet because of this empty house between us.
After watching the guy work this machine, Tom and I both considered a career change. What a cool job!
And here’s the new view from our office window. The city will plant grass and probably a few bushes and trees.
If this was our permanent home I think we would probably round up our nickles to buy this lot and grow a gorgeous garden. How amazing would that be!

Wow 30 minutes? That’s fast.
I think your view has improved. I’m sure there lots of advantages to having a grassy area (or garden) next door.
