I'm thankful for. . .

My husband, who drove our truck down to Athens, Ohio. To see the nephews that we love and the siblings that we cherish. To eat food that was plentiful and delicious, and feel the spirit that abides in their home and around their table. To play games, laugh, and read books. To play football and go for a run. To share opinions and passions. To play pretend and cuddle with little boys. For smiles and big bellies, dimples and giggles. For a heavily discounted vacuum– and the discovery that it is a great one. For the chance to decorate a  tree and witness the magic of Christmas through the eyes of two little boys. To see the wonder and confusion on Dallin’s face when he saw his first recognizable snow. For poinsettia. For an escape from the end-of-the-semester stress to a warm, peaceful, love-filled home. For that reminder of how much I cherish my family, and how I want to make it more of a priority to see them more often. For the chance to see my husband as my nephew’s best friend. To watch him play, laugh and wrestle– and see a glimpse of the father he will be. For a brother who serves even when it isn’t convenient, and gives all that he has. For a sister who smiles even when things are hard, and who is patient even when things seem a mess. For the chance to witness how the home can be like a temple. For sunshine.

I’m thankful for a husband who drove us home. For the long drive to discuss our dreams and hopes for the future, as well as our concerns and worries. For the love I feel for Tom. For memories of our engagement three years ago. For a welcoming home to return to. For more family dropping in. For fires and indoor heating. For anticipation. For vacations past present and future to talk about, enjoy, and look forward to. For occupied guest bedrooms. For neighbors and friends. For music and science. For good jobs. For cellphones and computers that make it easy to stay in contact with those we love. For mail. For pianos. For pillows and beds. For down blankets.

For the sabbath to ponder and pray. For the spirit that lifts and inspires. For a Savior who loves and forgives. For a Father in Heaven who guides and lets be. For modern day prophets and apostles and clarify and inspire. For creativity. For parents who love, support, encourage and always believe. For seven best friends, I can call siblings, who vary in age and in experience but who all love me and pray for me everyday.

I’m grateful for these things and many more. They fill my heart and make me smile so hard, it pushes the tears out of my eyes.
