Yup it’s true, Tom passed the first level in Kung Fu today. I like knowing my husband has ninja-like qualities. That if someone tried to attack me he could do “the horse” and protect me. I have noticed he has become more stealthy with his all-black apparel, which could be cause for alarm, but he has yet to use it on me. Well, from time to time he creeps into the office and scares me, but he did that before he became a kung fu master. He’s shown me a few of his moves, do you call them moves, stances? I’m not sure, but regardless he looks pretty intimidating. If you’ve seen “Kung Fu Panda” you know what I mean- that chubby guy is scary!
Now, Kung Fu isn’t the only sport Tom has become involved with. He plays flag football on Saturday (and scored touch-downs the last two weeks.) and he plays soccer with me on Wednesdays. Why the sudden dedication to exercise? Perhaps it was that time that he stood on a scale at someone else’s house, (we don’t own one) and found out he had gained five pounds. “I haven’t gained any weight since high school!” he exclaimed to me. Or perhaps it is that his love of all things sweet has risen to an all new high, and he knows that if he is going to eat dessert several times a day he is going to have to up his calorie burning. Maybe it’s his desire to eat a pound of pasta everyday?
I’m not sure, but I’ve got to say I’ve been impressed. My exercising has been less than impressive since the semester started, and I’ve been inspired by my sporty husband.

Go Tom! Having just watched Kung Foo Panda recently the kids were quite impressed that you are joining the ranks of “the furious five”! Thanks for the inspiration.

That is quite impressive! I had no idea Tom was learning Kung Fu. I’m sorry to say that I have gained weight since high school. And it’s more than five pounds.
Kung Fu, huh? That’s too cool! Pass a high five on to Tom from the Johnson Klan. I tried to envision if I could ever be a Kung Fu master, but in my current 9 month pregnant state, I think I might resemble the Kung Fu Panda a little too closely. =) I’d probably be better off enjoying noodles at his dad’s noodle restaurant than contorting myself in high-combat moves. –I love keeping up with your blog because I get to learn so much about Tom…. one of these days our families will have to bump into each other, Kjirsti!
Yet another hidden talent. Tell Tom to watch out because Bryce has been full of karate lately so Tom may just have some marital arts competition when we come up to visit. We can’t wait to see you guys in a couple weeks.
