It’s funny to think back on how many times Brigette and I would murmur and complain as we were ‘forced’ to weed a row in the garden. We would yell about how we hated the garden, how we would never have a garden when we grew up, and how we were treated like slaves. Now the two of us have been in an ongoing conversation about the state of our seeds that we are growing- earlier than we probably even need to, in preparation for our our gardens. Tom and I check our little seedlings daily. (I was telling Erin Durham about our seeds and came to the realization that the room that I had determined would be our eventual nursery, has actually become a nursery- for plants!) Once or twice a week I check the last frost dates again just to make sure I am on time, that I am planting everything at the correct time so that it will be ready when the time comes to put it in the ground. (Interestingly the date for me to plant my first cool plants is Easter weekend. I always thought the Saturday before Easter should be dedicated to planting- creating new life!)
Our seedling are doing great. The tomatoes actually look like tomatoes and our one little rosemary has even sprouted a tiny green head. I’m anxious to plant some more flowers. I think I might move the plants down to our big window downstairs. I worry they aren’t getting enough light upstairs.
My bulbs are coming up by the dozens! This week, having been home everyday since I am on spring break, I have walked around searching for more each day. I spent a good couple of hours raking all the leaves off my beds and off the lawn. (Note: rake leaves in fall before they begin to disintigrate and kill your grass.) In the process I discovered all sorts of new bulbs. I still worry that perhaps they will come up and never bloom as Sabina said happened to her once. We’ll see. I have also been excited to see that there are lot of bulbs, mainly daffodils, coming up that I didn’t plant! Oh how I love spring.
Our neighbor has had a lot of medical problems and has been in the hospital off and on all winter. While she is away we take care of her two cats and dog. Mainly just feeding and watering them and taking the dog for walks. She went back in two days ago, and so yesterday as I racked leaves and cleaned up the yard I let the dog out and let him run around the yard with me. He, Murphy, is an adorable little dog with lots of energy. He sprinted around the yard as I racked, and was quite a delight- until after school traffic started to pick up and he started darting across the street. Then I got a bit stressed and had to put the dog away.
We are 95% done with the tile in the kitchen. Hopefully by the end of the day we will have an unveiling and post a picture on the blog.

I’m afraid I’m still in the stage where I hate gardening. I’m glad you enjoyed taking care of the dog.
