Nursery updates

I realized only after it got too late to take another shot that I had that wreath hanging in the window. Not intentional. How I wish it didn’t get dark at 4:00 here.

I’ve been slowly working away at the nursery. I finished the quilt, made a crib sheet, and painted the little end table. I hung some frames, but they aren’t featured in any of the pictures. I feel like it’s at the point of cohesion but lacks those few items that pull it all together and make it feel polished. This is where my rooms often stay. I never seem to be able to put my thumb on those few items that would really make a room feel finished. Sometimes I think it’s because I’m not willing to drop the cash for the right rug or curtains. But more likely than not, I just need a more heightened design eye to identify the problem. This room is very small 8 1/2′ x 9′, making it a really challenging to photograph. And the lighting isn’t great- well the lighting is never very good in Seattle (wink). But I’ll try to get some more thorough pictures on the blog in the next few days, because I would love any feedback or ideas on how to pull it all together and make it look fabulous!

I splurged a bit on the fabrics for the quilt- ordering three of them online. I’m really happy with the result. The back is navy minky. This is totally a cheater’s quilt. It has the look of a quilt without all the piecing. You just lay out all the pieces on a large piece of muslin and sew them on. The edges fray, lending it a bit more rustic quality after it’s washed. I made Scotland one like this as well, though with a different pattern, and it has held up beautifully. He adores it. The minky on the back, though a bit tricky to work with, makes it so warm, cozy, and soft. (More so than a more traditional quilt.)
