Saturday update

Nursery with both curtains, quilt, and my new rocking chair!!!

The past week has been consumed with projects around the house. I ran a bead of silicone along all the baseboards where they meet the floor. (As our home energy audit revealed that a lot of cold air was seeping in there.) I finished the baby’s quilt, hung two curtains and installed hardware on two different pieces of furniture. I cleaned the floors numerous times, thanks to wintery shoes.  But most significant, and by far most difficult, was Tom finished installing insulation in our attic. It was a long and tedious job. But the house already feels warmer. I wish I had a picture to share of the attic. He gave me the grand tour yesterday but I didn’t to take the camera. Now the ladder and everything is put away and I don’t see myself swinging up into the attic entrance with this belly of mine hanging along. Tom built a walkway so that all areas of the attic are now accessible and then laid insulation throughout the entire space- even in little alcoves that he had to squeeze through small holes to access. At one point yesterday he called me on his phone to ask if I could bring up some caulk so he could seal a few holes he had found that are likely causing the water damage in the ceiling of our study. I crawled up there only to discover that I couldn’t find Tom anywhere. “Tom?” I asked. He responded and though I heard his voice I couldn’t see him. Where could he be? Sure enough he was in the small recessed space where the roof dips down, completely hidden from sight. There’s no way I could have squeezed in there. Determined to fully insulate our attic however, Tom went to all lengths!

Tom found all sorts of stuff up in the attic. Mostly old cabinet doors and pieces of wood. But he also found this grocery ad:

I wish I could still get a bag of potatoes for 19 cents!

This is totally tangential, but while I was cleaning up the office after the insulation project was finished I found this:

Tom had told me he had done this but I had never actually seen it. He attached this to the back of his desk and tied up all his wires and boxes so that his desk and the floor under his desk are wire free! Gotta love that guy’s ingenuity!
