We have finally finished the 1/2 bath. It’s pretty amazing how many changes we made in that tiny room. I think we changed every surface and every item in the room except for one vent cover and the toilet.
Here is the original bath, as it was when we bought it. Complete with a sign duct-taped on saying “This unit has been winterized.” There were tiny yellow and white tiles that ran 3/4 of the wall. Making you wonder where the showerhead was when you stepped in. Not to mention the great yellow metallic wallpaper.
We stripped off the tile, at first just half way, but then completely.
Yup this delightful cabinet was also removed. As were the Mardi gras beads that hung in front of the small ice-block window. (Shown on the floor here.)
In the mean time, we patched the walls until they were basically flat, then we textured, and finally primed and painted. We also tore out the small tile floor and tiled it like the kitchen. Here’s the final result.
Unfortunately the lighting isn’t great in these pictures, and the space is too small for the camera to really capture. But you get the idea.
I realize looking at this picture now, that the little trashcan looks out of place. We just need to add in some more darker elements in this room. I actually love this trash can it is a big chunk of wood that has been carved out.
The question now for all you home decorators is, where do we put the towel ring/bar? There isn’t enough space under the light switch to the right of the sink, you could put it to the left of the sink, but then that leaves an awkward space above the toilet. Our latest is to install a towel bar above the toilet. Any other decorating ideas?
