Furniture bargains

I said probably a month ago that I would post pictures of our estate sales treasures- here they are:

I love this little tea cart. It has the option of wheels which we decided against. The top opens up to offer a wider serving surface if desired. It matches our mahagony dining room table perfectly. And I like the openness of the piece because it doesn’t clutter the room. Not to mention it allows the vent right behind it to still gather air from the room. (What is the orange stuff you ask: spray-in insulation.)

I have this three drawer chest by my piano for our music.

The bed only came with one of the dowels that fist on the top, but the woman we bought if from said you can buy them from hardware stores? We’ll have to try, at least we have one to model them after. Isn’t it funny that this quilt I got at my bridal shower goes so well in this room. Thank you Tammy Lybbert!

These four pieces all came as a set. The little chest of drawers that is shown first also has the option of the additional shelves on top like the desk. They all are in a great need of another painting, but I like the shabby chic look they offer this little “blue” room.

Notice the new end table. We picked this up off the side of the road one evening. Never mind that the back panel is missing! (Don’t you love my 99 cent Aldi bouquet!!!)

Last weekend I posted about our basement cleaning endeavors. Just to give you an idea of what we were thrilled about here are pictures- which let me give you prior warning, since you didn’t see what came before this you will probably be shocked at how disgusting these rooms look, but trust me- they are much better!

Take note: yes that is water leaking in from outside as a result of the copper grounding job our first electrician did. Grrr. Also this is the ironing station I am so excited about. Now don’t be deceived I have yet to iron a single thing since we have been married- by I like the idea of it!

This is our “play room.” In fact the soccer ball is still there from when we played soccer with Bryce down here. It’s a terrific space. Never mind the pile of boards with nails sticking out of them, which have yet to be put back up after they were removed to install new wiring. Also note the horrible drywalling job done on the ceiling by- well, you know who.

Here’s the pantry I am so excited about. It still looks a little dangerous, but trust me with a little TLC this place is going to be amazing. I’m looking forward to replacing the deathily yellow paint with mold free KILZ primer. I really like the wood paneling on the other two walls- but for sanitary reasons we will probably have to prime them as well. Should we paint the shelves? I would rather leave them bare wood. What do you think?

I post these last pictures to joke. Sometimes I fear I give a too romanticized image of our efforts here. We enjoy working on the house, and I can honestly say these things don’t bother me that much. But obviously remodeling an 60 year old house doesn’t come without it’s challenges and set backs. Fortunately, we fill most of our time with other hobbies of ours, so the house is kind of our get away. Working on it is a means of relaxation, creativity and balance for me, and at this point probably of means of love and service for Tom. (Love and service for me of course. wink wink) We both just love projects- and the house guarantees that we are never without one!
