Fall break Feats

So I was bound and determined to get a lot done over fall break. Here’s what I have to report: I’m going to show it mainly in pictures.
I woke up Monday morning and began sanding down the ceilings. After only 15 minutes my upper arms began to severly cramp up. Discouraged but not deflated I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went up stairs and bought a “Drywall Sander” with my fun money. It was a large purchase, but certainly cheaper than hiring someone, and it should make the job not only easier but more successful. I didn’t pay for fancy shipping so I was shocked when it showed up today! I was even more surprised at the size. Somehow from the small pictures online i thought it was about 3 feet long. Look at this beast. I laughed and laughed at the thought of my buying this silly looking machine.

After this purchase, I decided I might as well wait to do the drywalling until it arrived, so I shifted tasks and decided to go ahead and paint the cabinets. It took two days but I am about 80% done! Here’s picts:

In the process:

Completed. I haven’t decided if I am going to paint the top cabinet on the otherside. I mean I will definately paint it creamy white. I feel like keeping it lighter opens up the room, and breaks up the galley kitchen feel, But I also love the way the green is looking, and think maybe it would just look like the odd one out. What do you think? Seriously I would love feed back.

Next step: is to finish the drywall so we can paint the walls. Lately I have been liking a color called Maize. It’s sort of a wheaty yellow.

Tom mentioned that now that the cabinets look so clean and new, the floor looks much worse. Do you think we could tile before Thanksgiving. . .? Okay probably not, but perhaps before I come home for Christmas!

One of my other ongoing projects has been this back door. I’ve sanded it, stripped it, sanded it, Tom has filled holes and added new door knobs. We will eventually get the cracked pane of glass in the upper right fixed. However my latest addition has been this wood putty. I bought some to fill in some holes on the cabinets and had the brilliant idea to build up this door. It look horrible now, but I think it is going to look really nice when we paint it. Before there were large areas were huge portions of paint had chipped off. And given that there were probably 5 coats of paint, these areas were really noticeable. Basically I just filled in those parts so the door is flat- like new! It will still have character, for sure, just not so much that it ruins its reputation!
