I mowed our lawn yesterday! We have actually never mowed our lawn before because it was growing so poorly. It looks so green and fresh now- as if inviting us out to picnic. I raked up all the leaves and branches that had blown onto our yard from the terrific wind storm we had last week, and weeded the front flowerbeds too. It was a calm fall day and for the first time this season I felt ready to accept fall. Several weeks ago we went to Costo and they had all of their fall garlands and wreaths out, and it really bothered me. But yesterday I was ready to welcome it. Fall has a certain peacefulness that I’m looking forward to.
I am anxiously awaiting time to plant the bulbs I bought. I love having a yard to work in, now I just wish I had more time to work in it.
After two weeks of not receiving mail we finally called in to find out that one of the postal workers had assumed our house was vacant (hmm, maybe because we don’t have any furniture) and so they started holding our mail. They delivered it all yesterday and we were delighted to find several coupons for free dinners from neighborhood restaurants- yes free dinners, no buy one get one, just simple welcome to the neighborhood- have yourself a free pizza, or my favorite $10.00 of free merchandise from the local nursery!
Today Tom was talking to a friend of ours in church and next thing we know we were given a brand new dishwasher! They just bought a house and were putting in all stainless steel appliances so they have a brand new, never been used, white dishwasher. The previous owner installed it in order to sell the house. Apparently it’s just taking space in their garage and they have been dying to get rid of it. Tom gladly agreed to take it off their hands. What luck!
One of the things I love about this house is that we have a basement. I was walking downstairs to check the laundry early this week and this feeling of nastalgia came over me. I felt “at home.” My family home has a basement that makes up half of our house. It is where my room was all growing up, and where my sister and I created imaginitive playworlds in our childhood. It is near and dear to my heart, who knew that walking down stairs to my own basement now would bring back such memories.
