Sometimes I wonder if the money and time I invest in my garden is being put to the best use.
The fact is that gardening keeps me whole. I come back from a good session in the garden feeling spiritually renewed, physically challenged, and mentally alert. I think deeper in the garden. I am more grateful in the garden. I am happier in the garden. Plus, I like to think that beautifying out little plot in Shaker Heights is one way for us to give back, not only to the city and to Cleveland in general, but to the earth.
I believe that learning to beautify is one of the reasons we are on earth, that learning to create is part of our mission here. Gardening has taught me lessons in patience, and faith. Watching my tomato seedlings reach up to the lamp above reminds me of how fully I too should reach towards a higher Light. I’m grateful to the earth for teaching me these lessons and allowing me these experiences.
How about you? What are you celebrating this Earth day?
