Boston with the Brayley's

After a day and a half in New York we drove north to Boston to visit Cassie, Doug, Archer and Amelia. Scotter and Archer couldn’t have been faster friends. They immediately took to each other, playing happily the whole visit. (Of course there were a few scurmishes.) It was so fun to see the two interacting and being silly together.

Mostly we just enjoyed being together, playing with toys, chatting, going for walks, and eating. We’d planned to go to Newport one day, but then decided we just wanted to give these kiddos more time to play together.

This was our first chance to really get to know Amelia. She is a darling girl with such a sweet and sparky personality. It was fun to see her girlish tendencies (she loves shoes, purses, and she squeals!) She has this darling smile, and these huge doe eyes that just melt me. At the same time she’s tough and fiesty, we just love her.

We all had fun visiting the Boston Science Museum. Scotland is still talking about the show we saw in the planetarium: “Moon is broken. Moon is fixed. Is Okay.” Clearly the scene where a meteorite hit and shattered one of Saturn’s moons really disturbed him.

Isn’t Cassie so classy!

It warmed up enough on Tuesday (43) for us to go to the playground. (Mostly we just wanted to get these energetic boys out of the house.) The sun was shining and despite the chill we had a wonderful time. I love how happy kids are outside. Cass and Doug live in this gorgeous secluded neighborhood. There is a 1/2 mile trail right next to their house that leads to a huge park and playground. They also have a lake around the corner from them that we enjoyed walking to.

It’s a blurry picture, but the sentiment is clear
Doug’s birthday is on Easter, but we wanted to be able to celebrate with him so we helped the two boys make brownies so we could sing to him. (Singing is definitely Scotland’s favorite part.) I love how children add such joy and excitement to birthdays. The boys dumped loads of sprinkles on the brownies and carefully placed each lettered candle. They continued to belt out “Happy Birthday” sporatically throughout the rest of our visit.
It was good to have the opportunity to stay up late and chat with Cassie and Doug. They’re always good for some deep insightful conversations.
It was a wonderful visit, and despite the brief length Tom and I both felt that we got some really quality time with everyone. Thanks Cass and Doug for having us, and for sharing your sweet home and family!

  1. Ben and I had our first date at the Boston Museum of Science. We saw Everest in IMAX and then a laser show. While we waited for them to start, we picked out “Twinkle Twinkle” on the musical steps. We never could quite get it right, because one of them was out of tune.
