Our time with Tom has become much more limited, and as a result we’ve tried to make the most of it. Tom worked nights all last week, so when we finally had him back Thursday night we headed out on the town. We enjoyed some good eats at the Indian Flame, partially to celebrate his being down with nights, and partially to celebrate his receiving his PhD diploma. (I think this is about the sixth time we’ve celebrated him getting his PhD. Why not!)
Friday Night I picked up Tom and and we drove downtown to see the set of “The Avengers” in front of Tower city. The whole plaza in front has been made to look like it’s in Germany with all the signage auf Deutsch. There was a car flipped over too. We were planning on parking and watching if there was any action going on, but apparently they were filming at some run down warehouse on the east side that day. A couple of weeks ago you could watch the super heros battle it out. That would have been fun. (There are four films being filmed in Cleveland right now. Yes, I feel famous!) On our way back we stopped in an Asian Market, a friend of Tom’s had told him about. The highlight was certainly the tank of frogs in the “deli.” Next the box of bagged turtles- again in the “deli.” Supposively this store has some of the best chinese food in Cleveland, but we couldn’t quite get over the marinating stomach. I was thrilled to buy some raw buckwheat however!
Saturday, I spent most of the day away- canning with the Relief Society, and assisting a friend on a photography shoot. Then at 5:30 we headed off to the beach. Six months ago we would have never though it worth the time to drive 45 minutes to the beach so late in the day, but now- why not! Time is of essence. We enjoyed chatting in the car, flying the kite and playing in the sand on the beach, and watching the sun go down. Scotland LOVES the sand, and all the smooth rocks.
Flying the kite
While we were there this group of high schoolers came- most with an instrument of some kind, mostly guitars. They just jammed on the beach as the sun went down. I hope Scotland has friends like that!
This is Tom’s favorite.
Sunday we enjoyed Cafe Rio with friends.
It was a good couple of days. Perhaps because of the longer days, and thus shorter nights, Scotter and I both now have colds. But alas! It was worth it!
