I love my job!

Today was my last day teaching for the year. I’ll teach a handful of students through the summer, but the bulk of my students take off for camp and vaction. We have our studio recital this Friday. I’m so excited. Each student has made so much improvement. Jen is starting to express more. Anna is smiling. Emmie is finding her head voice. Jessica is breathing deeper. I could go on. I really love my job. I come home so enthused, inspired, and lifted. When I first started teaching high school students I worried that I wouldn’t be “cool” enough. And yet today, two of my sophomore students and I laughed hysterically. Anna who would hardly say a word to me when she started, out of shyness, smiled broadly throughout the entirety of “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning.” I feel so grateful to have found this niche in music. I love performing, but I hate networking and auditioning. I love teaching. Every week is a performance- every lesson is a performance. That means every Wednesday I get to perform for five hours! I love my job!
