Motivation

I’ve been trying to derive a plan to help motivate Scotland to do. . . what I want him to do: reading, dishes, cleaning, behaving. I just about decided I was going to come up with a rewards chart- he would earn stickers/fake money that would add up to him being able to choose something from his prize box. Then I read this article. The findings here are not surprising, they’re not new. But they reminded me of the reason I have shied away from prizes/bribes/rewards. I want my children to be intrinsically motivated. I want them to act out of desire and understanding. But, is that too much to ask of a three year old? I doubt my children are going to feel “called” to help around the house- as much as they may know that is the right thing to do. Is it wrong then to set up a system to motivate them to do so?  How do you motivate your children?
