Potty training

Two weeks ago we had our three day “potty party.” I was crossing my fingers that it would work out like my nephew- three days of intense focus and a half dressed little boy and I’d be done with diapers. It didn’t work like that. No, we’re back in diapers. Call me a whimp. We dedicated the whole week to the pottying procedure. At first it was exciting and Scotland was loving his chart with stickers, the special “peach punch” and the fish crackers he got to snack on while watching shows on the pot. But as soon as ‘real life’ continued and I was no longer willing to let him eat fish crackers and watch shows all day long (after the magical three days) he lost interest. He’d scream and cry every time I suggested he try.  When I communicated that I loved that he wanted to wear underwear, but that he couldn’t wear underwear if he was unwilling to sit on the toilet, he decided he’d go back to diapers. Sigh. So much for my dream of having him securely potty-trained before little brother comes.
Did I give up too soon? Would he have eventually decided that wet pants weren’t his thing, and start actually trying on his own? Or am I right to think, he’s just not ready?
