I was completely intrigued by my first pregnancy. I took delight and wonder in each new development and transformation. I documented it via comic, and short notation. I figured it would be fun to compare with future pregnancies. It has been. I’ve been much worse about documenting this pregnancy. I love reading back on comics like this and this, and laughing at their accuracy. And while I’ll think, I should take note of this or that, I usually fail to take the time. So here’s my lame attempt to highlight a few things that have been different this time around:
-I crave pickles and spicy food- I always mix my ketchup with hot pepper sauce now, and I’ve taken to adding pickled jalapenos to several dishes.
-I remember feeling like I couldn’t suck in with my last pregnancy. That isn’t the case this time. I can only think that must be because I am so much looser this time, that there is just a whole lot more to suck in. Sigh.
-I really enjoyed doing yoga throughout the duration of my last pregnancy. This time around I’ve found my yoga practice to be much less comfortable and to result in much more pain afterwards.
-I’m still in love with the sensation of my baby moving inside of me. I can’t help but smirk when little mounds ripple across my belly. And though I jokingly complain about the late hour of his daily exercise regime, I love lying there before sleep feeling him jazzercise around my innards.
-I’ve loved the added component of thinking of this baby in combination with Scotland. We often talk about “baby brother.” “Babies” come up often in our conversation. Scotland knows just where to look when I say “It’s in baby’s room.”
-Like my last pregnancy I’ve had restless legs the past month, and a lot of foot and calf cramping. So far no itchy hands- here’s hoping that doesn’t return!
