Scotland asks me questions all day long. He’ll jabber a long sentence ending in an elevated tone to signal a question and then look at me intently. I look back at him, deer-in-the-headlights. How do I respond? If I wait too long he’ll ask the question again. Usually I say, “Oh!” or “Sure” but I’m beginning to wonder if I perhaps I’m underestimating the depth of his questions. What if he’s asking: “Do you think it’s right for insurance companies to refuse to take someone with pre-exisiting conditions?” and I respond- “Definitely!” Or maybe he’s asking, “Can I eat nothing but bread for the rest of my life?” and I say “Sure!” I expected to be stumped by my children’s questions, but not at 18 months!
One response to “Stumped”
Which is why you can best reply with “Really?” or “Oh? Tell me more” or “Can you show me?”
