I keep thinking This is the best age ever, and then it just gets better. Though better isn’t the right word. Because I still love and miss the tiny new born age. I miss those first smiles. I miss those long feedings when I held him in my arms and read. But I adore his age right now.
Pardon the iphone pictures. I’ve misplaced my camera battery charger. Grrr.
I know I say this a lot, but Scotland is incredibly sweet. He shares everything always. Today we were at Costco, he shared all his samples with me. Tonight he had a cup of Grandma’s coveted grape juice- he shared it with Tom. When our neighbor Sarah came over he picked up some leaves to give her. While I was weeding in the yard this evening he picked a dandelion from across the yard and brought it to me. At Saturday’s rehearsal he had half the cast laughing, smiling and watching him as he tickled them, played hide and seek, and made sweet eyes. On Sunday he took his container of toys to three separate people during Sacrament meeting to play with them. He loves people and is immediately friendly.
His latest words are: Uh oh! and “Again!”
He’s climbing everywhere- on the table, all over me. . .
He’s no longer fond of sitting in the shopping cart- today he helped me push the cart. . . most of the time- the rest of the time he tried to convince me to buy croutons, pretzels and a soccer ball. Who knew it would start so young?
He’s back to napping happily and consistently.
His favorite book is Bright Baby 100 words. He likes to point to all the pictures and have me label each thing. His favorite page is the Trucks and airplanes. His second, the page with a “titty!” He insists on sitting next to me on the rocker and holding the book himself. He likes to “read” the book, himself. (Can I just say, I ADORE my rocker. Thanks Mom for the suggestion to find a wide one!)
He’s really taken to sign language. He signs please, thank you, bread, hungry/thirsty, bike, all done, hot. I need to come up with some more to teach him. He clearly wants to communicate, and sometimes you can tell he isn’t sure how to get his point across.
Every night before bed I “eat” him and he giggles endlessly.
He’s started giving lots of hugs. He’ll lay his little head on your shoulder and put his arms around your neck.
He always smiles broadly when Tom comes home from work and then runs away- ready to play!
He loves playing catch.
No, we didn’t buy this bear.
He’s eager to help around the house. I need to be better at finding ways he can assist. I want to find a tall stool so he can help me cook.
He loves going to Nursery with me. He’ll sit on one of the chairs and do the actions with the other kids- for a while. Too bad there are two months before he can official start attending. Yesterday he sat next to Devin Clark. At one point he put his arm around Devin’s back, in a “We’re buddies, huh?!” sort of way. Devin wasn’t so sure!
He’s becoming more of a Momma’s boy. He’s always loved me, but he’s starting to come to me more for hugs and love. It alway melts me.
He loves doing backflips off the back of the couch with Dad.
He was covered in mud this evening after playing in a puddle while I weeded.
He continues to be very polite. If he doesn’t like something, or doesn’t want to do something, he’ll often just turn his head away or down.
He loves wearing shoes.
He adores bathtime.
We have a lot of loud kids that live on our street. You’ll often hear them yelling as they speed down the street on their bikes, or skateboards. Scotland has started yelling out when he hears them.
Scotter often reminds me to say prayers by folding his arms. Or sometimes forgets that we’ve already said the prayer and will fold his arms in the middle of the meal.
He’ll often stop to smell a flower of his own accord.

He sounds like such a sweet kid. Ben has often marveled at the phenomenon you mentioned at the beginning: every single stage is the best stage. He can’t figure out how it works, but it does!
