Milestones: 15 months

Scotter turned 15 months on Tuesday. We’re loving this age. He seems to learn a new skill every day. Here are some of his latest:

-Squatting: Often when I give Scotland a snack I’ll squat down to give it to him. He’s started to follow suit. Now if he wants me to give him some of what I have, he’ll come over and squat down in front of me. The picture above was a time when I gave him a hunk of bread in that pink bowl with his sippy. He walked over to the other side of the kitchen, squatted down took a sip and then proceeded to beak up his bread into smaller bits and put them into his bowl.
-Says: Hi!, Jesus, Dada (when prompted), Mom (only when he’s ready to get out of his crib), kitty, Scotland? (still not sure on that one)
-imitates animal sounds- horse, cow, pig, dog
-10 teeth

-LOVES sticks, if he’s outside he’s always got a couple in his hand
-Outdoor boy. He’s always happy to be outside, and asks to go out multiple times a day. He especially loves going for rides on his bike. Last time we went he wanted to push the bike.
-Chats with people at the store
-Loves playing with other kids in small settings. I took him to the library a few days ago. There was a 4 year old girl there playing. They took to each other. She started doing a puppet show, and he grabbed a puppet and put it between the curtains and started babbling. She went into the green reading canopy so he did too- then they both started walking in circles in there. She colored, so he sat up and colored. It was another reminder of the importance of giving him exposure to older children with more a more advanced skillset. At rehearsal a week ago, a 4-5 year old boy took to Scotland and they played with his minature animals together. Scotter kept looking him right in the eye and jabbering “uh-gah guh lugh ga” with the cadence of a question. The little boy would look at me and say, I don’t know what he’s saying! Clearly Scotland thought he ought to. That being said Scotter is more cautious and shy with larger groups of kids.
-Tickles. He is starting to spontaneously tickle, usually as a way to say “Let’s play!” Meaning let’s wrestle on the ground. He only tickles people he’s really comfortable with.
-Following directions. Early this week we were at Target. He got tired of the cart, so I held him for a bit, but soon that was too difficult so I put him down. He toddled around after me checking things out but always paying attention to be sure he still knew where I was.
-Independent. Scotter continues to play very happily independently. Often while I’m doing dinner prep he’ll play outside on the driveway/backyard. I’ll keep the door open and keep and eye on him. He’ll occupy himself happily, coming in from time to time to say hi.

-Thinking. Scotter often his this thoughtful look. He seems to think things through before he trys them out. Analyzing the height of a step or the depth of a fall before he tackles it. He’s a cautious kid, but plenty adventurous once he determines it’s safe.

-Today we were walking across the grass at a park. Scotter stopped halfway through to pick some clover flowers. It made me happy that he notices such things.

-books. He’s starting to show an interest in books. Though his attention span is still brief. He’s especially good at looking at books when we’re in the car. Sometimes he’ll pretend he’s reading outloud.
