Garden thoughts

This week has been glorious! The last two days have been in the 70s and the sun has been brilliant and intense, like it hasn’t been in months. The grass is greening up and the trees are budding.
My daffodills are getting ready to bloom.
The morning is orchestrated by birds. I saw my first blue jay. The robins are plentiful.
The peas, beets, lettuce, and swiss chard are in the garden, some basil, tomatoes, parsley and lettuce are seeding inside. I spent an hour or so last weekend rotatilling the garden by shovel. I really want to rent a rotatiller to work some areas of the garden that are still really tough.
My soil is the best its been. I’ve continually added more and more organic material to it over the past four years, and it’s paying off.
I’m going to try some of the free shaker heights mulch in the less worked parts of my garden this year.
This is our last summer in this house. It’s more likely than not that I won’t have a plot of earth to call my own in the next five years. So, I’m going to make the most of it while I have it. Luckily, Scotland loves playing in the dirt too!
