Boston!

Last weekend, Tom and I headed off to Boston for a long weekend to spend some time with his two sisters and their families. We had a wonderful time, even though sickness threw a wrench in things.

We had a great time playing with Archer. We were amazed at how much clearer his speech was compared to a few months ago. He is so articulate and bright. He was a kind and gentle playmate to Scotland. They enjoyed speed crawling around the house; making loud “Uh” noises at the dinner table; and playing with toys. Archer called Scotland “Little Buddy.” Archer’s a passionate cook. I was amazed at his patience and focus. He’d happily stand on a chair pouring flour, observing, measuring, and spreading. My favorite memories are our piggy back ride on our hike, building “airplanes,” cooking pancakes, and singing Scotland to sleep on our way to church.

Amelia is cuter than ever. She was so alert. She’s such a sweet happy girl. She has a calm presence about her, and is content to sit and observe. I love her large eyes and impish grin. She’s a beauty.

We got to see the USS Constitution. Unfortunately, the actual ship was closed so we couldn’t go onboard. Though we did get to see the Destroyer.

The contrast was stark. Both ships seemsed symbols of their age. The first a beautiful interweaving of man and nature. Organic elements like wood and hemp rope lend a romantic air- a beautiful weaving of man and nature. The hard metals of the Destroyer, with its dismal gray color showed the unforgiving times of the industrial revolution- man vs. machine.

Mostly, we enjoyed time with family. I feel so blessed to have such wonderful in-laws. It’s a shame we don’t have more opportunties to get together.
