City Fresh

Today was the last day of City Fresh a CSA I started participating in about a month ago. I’ve loved it. It’s encouraged me to try new recipes, eat more seasonally, and branch out in my vegetable selection. Today I brought home: an acorn squash, a pie pumpkin, a cauliflower, a broccoli, 3 turnips, 2 red peppers, 6 apples, 5 radishes, a leek, 3 sweet potatoes, an eggplant, a bundle of kale, and a half pint of hot pepper butter. (And the price- $16.00!) This will be my first time cooking with and probably eating kale. (Unless mustard greens have kale in them- we had that for the first time when we went out to a Cajun restaurant on Friday.) I’ve also never eaten turnips. I’m excited to cook my first pumpkin. Judging by the build up of squash around here- we’re going to be eating lots of squash soup, squash risotto, squash. . . any ideas? I’m thinking of trying this,

for a fancy date night, though I’ll probably make the ravioli. And I’m thinking of pumpkin quinoa pancakes
for my Pumpkin themed cooking club this week. For the Madsen’s Halloween Party on Saturday, this.
I made a huge pot of applesauce today. Thanks Myrtle, for the inspiration. Now instead of ice-cream as an after dinner treat it will be warm applesauce! Oh, fall!
Oh, and once Sabina figures out how to make fabulous apple chips. I think I’ll make some of those, some kale chips, and some sweet potato chips. Hmmm, maybe I have the munchies!
