Garden 2011

Sorry to bombard the blog with posts today. I’m way behind.

Despite my lack of attention, the garden is coming up nicely. Last year, I drew out a plan, spent months nurturing seedlings, and meticulously planted each plant. This year I had no plan, I never transplanted my seedlings from their original seeding trays so they were literally one inch when I planted them, and then we just sort of threw them in haphazardly. That, combined with the fact that about a third of them were washed away in never-ending rain, made for a very random looking garden. But alas, it’s growing. My zucchini and yellow squash are doing the best- see them at the far left of the photo. The peas are abundant- in the middle of the picture, and the strawberrys are very tall and green, but have produced few berries- most of which have been consumed by mouths other than our own. I am loving my pots on this back step. Last year these pots were by my front door. But I never saw them there. Now, I see them all day long as I stand at the window above my sink. Funny how simple decisions can make such a difference in our happiness!

  1. Strawberry netting. Worth the price. Those stupid birds were getting all the berries. But, at least we can fight the birds. In Ohio, ants ate all my berries. They don’t make ANT netting.
